Zinal / Grimentz

The Zinal and Grimentz ski area is situated in the Val d’Anniviers within the Swiss canton of Valais. This destination attracts off-piste enthusiasts and families seeking a quieter alternative to the larger commercial resorts. The combined ski area offers approximately 115 kilometers of marked runs and extensive freeride terrain. With slopes reaching an elevation of 2,900 meters, the resort maintains a consistent snow cover throughout the winter season.

This region regularly hosts international competitions including European Cup alpine races and the challenging Sierre-Zinal mountain running event during the summer months. Travelers typically reach the resort by flying into Geneva International Airport, which is located about 160 kilometers away. From the airport, visitors take a train to the town of Sierre followed by a postal bus or taxi for the final leg of the journey. The total travel time from Geneva usually takes around two and a half hours.

The village of Grimentz is recognized for its well-preserved 15th-century wooden granaries and traditional Valais architecture. Dining in Grimentz focuses on local specialties such as raclette and dried meats served in rustic settings like Restaurant Le Meleze. Zinal offers a more functional atmosphere geared toward mountaineers with establishments like Le Point de Pointer providing hearty meals for skiers.
