What is in Version 7.0?
We’re pleased to announce the release of version 7.0 of our application. This is a new major version and marks a significant milestone to our android users.

New Recording Engine
One of our biggest complaints and sources of frustration for users is when Piste stops recording mid-day and misses your track.
To fix this, we've redesigned the entire app around a standalone service on Android. The entire recording engine is now separate from the main app interface—meaning if the app crashes or gets closed, the engine keeps right on tracking!
Because our underlying data format has changed, existing recordings will require a quick three-second upgrade the first time you open them in the new version.
This new engine also allows us to solve our second biggest complaint: detailed tracking accuracy! We now record enough data to reconstruct your entire day. This means future resort updates can add newly mapped runs and lifts to your previously recorded sessions - magic.
On iOS, while Apple's system limits don't allow for an un-killable background super-service, you still benefit from the new session recording format and gain the exact same re-parsing features as Android.
Summer of bug fixes
Summer flew by and we crushed a mountain of bugs along the way! Here is what's new:
- Session Timelines: Fixed a hilariously wonky setup so timelines now work seamlessly across all timezones.
- Accurate Session Durations: Total time now correctly spans from your very first start to the final lift.
- Rest Breaks: Pauses between recordings are now treated as actual breaks instead of disappearing into the void.
- iOS Notifications: Resolved an issue where notifications weren't working properly on the latest iOS version.
- Map Views: Satellite view now stays active when minimizing the app.
- UI Polish: Fixed that stubborn compass that was hiding under every UI element imaginable.
- Stationary Time: Improved the stationary time calculator for greater precision.
- My Events: You can now access the list to see your current and previous ski events
PisteIQ
Hear us out... our developer got locked in a room somewhere for a weekend, and Piste now grades your skiing!
We analyze key metrics throughout your descents to calculate an overall Ski Score based on four factors:
- Control: Evaluates turning technique and weight transfer.
- Ride: Scores shock absorption, stability, and any sudden impacts or falls.
- Carving: Measures turn consistency and turn rate.
- Speed: Tracks your average skiing speed.
We’ve also introduced Turn Analysis to gauge your confidence in every turn. It’s brand new and will likely need fine-tuning as we gather feedback, but all Premium users can try it out today!

What to expect for the next update
I have a rule that I'm not allowed to mention more than one future feature per post, but lets just say some very exiting stuff is coming down the pipe soon.
We are still looking at adding a spreadsheet export of your day for premium users, who says spreadsheets and skiing don't meet!
In the more distant future upcoming versions will enable watch apps to record your sessions completely standalone and seamlessly sync them straight into Piste.
