What is an indoor ski slope?
An indoor ski slope is basically a giant freezer with snow in it. You can purchase tickets to practice real skiing on real snow! Best of all you can ski year round regardless of the weather!
Where are the indoor slopes in the UK?
The UK currently has 5 indoor ski slopes, 2 near London, one in the Midlands and 2 in the North.
Hemel
The Snow Centre: Hemel is a 160m ski slope north of London, making it the nearest choice for Londoners and those living in the south.
The centre features a main slope serviced by two Poma lifts and a beginner slope serviced by two magic carpets.
The centre hosts various events, such as 'Full Park Fridays', where the main slope is transformed into a different terrain park each week.

The slope has decent gradient, and is the best option near london.
Manchester
The Snow Centre: Manchester is a whopping 180m ski slope (the longest in the UK) and is located right next to the Trafford Centre in Manchester.
The centre features a main slope serviced by two Poma lifts and a beginner slope serviced by a magic carpet.
The centre hosts various events, such as 'Full Park Fridays', where the main slope is transformed into a different terrain park each week. Mogul sessions are also available to get to grips with the challenging snow feature.
Why we like it
The large wide slope and steep gradient near the top keeps the slope from getting boring, we especially enjoy the small flat section near the bottom to practice our ollies and presses.
Tamworth
SnowDome Tamworth is a whopping ski slope with a twist, literally - it has a bend! Located in the Midlands, it's the nearest slope for Birmingham skiers.
The centre features a multi-floor design with a narrow main slope, serviced by a travelator and a rope tow. Below it is the beginner slope, tucked away on another floor of the building.

Snozone Milton Keynes is a 170m ski slope north of London, making it the 2nd nearest choice for Londoners and those living in the south.
The centre's indoor area is the largest in the UK, featuring an extremely wide main slope and a smaller beginner slope.
The centre hosts various events, such as 'Parkology', where the main slope is transformed into a terrain park on Thursdays and Fridays.
Why we like it
Despite the Pillars, Snozone tends to be a cheaper option overall.
Castleford
Snozone Yorkshire is a 150m ski slope south of leeds, making it the ideal spot to ski for the north.
The centre features a V style slope with the main slope on one side and the beginner slope on the other.
The centre hosts various events, such as 'Freestyle Park', where the main slope is transformed into a terrain park on Thursday evenings.

FAQ
How cold are indoor ski slopes?
Indoor Ski Slopes are typically -3 to -6°C wrap up moderately! Normally a T-Shirt + Snow Jacket is sufficient. If your doing lessons, also wear a jumper as you will be stood still a-lot.
Can I use Piste indoors?
Yes! All the slopes in this article are tracked by Piste, we even work out which lifts you use!

Does it snow?
Yes! Although this usually tends to happen overnight, the snowfall in these centers is more of a fine mist.
How different is it to an outdoor ski slope?
A dry ski slope is a bristly mat you ski/snowboard on, whilst it provides similar characteristics to snow, it's no substitute for the real thing.
If your learning to Ski, a dry ski slope is perfectly adequate, but your progression will be hindered when exercising nuanced control. That said, skills gained from learning on the dry stuff will make real snow feel very easy.
Another thing to be aware is that it's generally ill-advised to use your own equipment on dry slopes, the surface is very harsh on the base of skiis and boards. Luckily with real snow theres no such limitation on indoor slopes.
Do I need to wear goggles?
Not at all! the light is very good in the slopes and the snow is easy to read.
Do I need to own a helmet?
Helmets are mandatory in all centres, you can always hire these free of charge as part of your lift pass / lesson package.
Now might be a good time to pick one up as you'll need it to ski in most European resorts these days.
Do I need to bring my own skiis / snowboard?
Hire is always included in your lift pass / lesson price. You are free to bring your own equipment; but there is no discount for doing so.
Do I need lessons to buy a lift pass?
You need to at least ski/snowboard at a minimum 'slope safe' level. This means you need to be able to turn and stop as directed, and use the lifts unaided. If you've never skied before - don't think about trying it without an instructor.
What age do I need to be to learn to Ski?
You can start lessons from 3-4 years old, snowboarding is slightly older at 7-8.
