Navigation

Navigation Bar

The navigation bar is made up of 5 icons:

  • map Map
  • landscape Resort
  • groups Groups
  • calendar_today Sessions
  • settings Settings

These icons represent the different sections of Piste.

map Map

This is the Map screen where you see your friends and all the runs and resorts in Piste. It should be considered the 'Home' screen.

landscape Resorts

This is where you manage and view the Ski Resorts you want to track. This section provides detailed information on the runs and lifts in a ski resort as well as showing your overall completion rate of each resort.

groups Groups

This is where you manage and view your friend groups and the associated settings. You can create and join ski groups here and share your location with each other.

calendar_today Sessions

This is where you can view your skiing history. Detailed statistics and map of your tracks are displayed here.

settings Settings

This is where you can manage the app's settings, profile and see various legal documentation.


To navigate between sections simply tap on the corresponding icon, each section independently remembers its position so you can easily flick back and forth without losing your progress.

Map Screen

The map screen should be considered the main screen and is packed deep with features despite its apparent simplicity.

The visible buttons on the screen are as follows:

  • search Search Bar
  • layers Layer Button
  • location_disabled Locate Button
  • emergency_share Start Skiing Button

search Search Bar

The search bar can be used to quickly find runs and lifts in Piste. See the search bar section for more info.

layers Layers Button

You can toggle the visibility of various ski groups on the map using this control.

location_disabled Locate Button

Use this button to quickly find your current location on the map.

emergency_share Start Skiing Button

Use this to quickly start tracking your day's skiing. Press it again to stop tracking.

Map Gestures

The following gestures are available on the map:

  • touch_app Tap: Select a map item
  • touch_long Tap + Hold: Place a marker
  • swipe Tap + Drag: Move the map
  • pinch_zoom_out Pinch: Zoom map
  • swipe_vertical Two Finger Vertical Slide: Tilt map for 3D (premium only)

Map Elements

The following elements are tappable on the map:

  • touch_appRuns
  • touch_appLifts
  • touch_app Users
  • touch_app Resorts
  • touch_app Group Markers

Search Bar

The search engine returns results for the resorts you have installed. It runs locally so you can use it without signal.

Some examples of things you can search:

  • search Runs
  • search Lifts
  • searchBus Stops
  • searchTowns
  • searchSki Resorts

Clicking on a search result will take you to its location on the map.

Resort List

The resort list displays all the resorts you have installed. One resort can be your 'Default' resort and is the resort the map will display when opening Piste.

To add a resort click the + button, to remove a resort swipe a resort to the left.
And simply tap a resort to go into the resort details page.

Resort Details

The resort details is the go to hub for all the resort information on Runs, Lifts and Challenges. You can switch between the views by swiping to the left or right or by using the tab bar.

You can use the top App Bar menu to:

  • Go to the resort on the map
  • Set it as the default resort when opening Piste
  • Check for resort updates
  • Remove the resort and all progress data

There are 4 tabs for the various resort details you can access.

  • landscape Summary
  • downhill_skiing Runs
  • gondola_lift Lifts
  • trophy Challenges

  • landscape Summary
  • The summary tab displays the current weather and snow in the resort as well as your progression on completing the resort. Piste tracks every run, lift and challenge in the resort and you can see handy totals as well as a graph. The grey component of each graph represents partially completed items.
    A full screen completion map can be accessed from this summary screen also.

  • downhill_skiing Runs
  • The Runs tab displays all the named runs in the resort. Each run has the following information:

    • The grading from green to black
    • The name of the run
    • Any hazards on the run (ungroomed, cliffs, flat areas etc)
    • How long ago you last visited the run
    • The percentage of the run you have visited
    Runs can be filtered both by the search bar and with the pre-built filters.

    Note: If you have snowboarding equipment selected, an additional 'Good for snowboarding filter' is available, this hides runs that have flats.

  • gondola_lift Lifts
  • The Lifts tab displays all the lifts in the resort. Each lift has the following information:

    • The type of lift (from magic carpets to funiculars)
    • The name of the lift
    • The last time you visited the lift
    • An indicator if you have ridden the lift
    Lifts can be filtered both by the search bar and with the pre-built filters.

    Note: The Drag lift filter include Buttons, J Bars, T Bars and Platters.

  • trophy Challenges
  • The challenge tab displays all the challenges in the resort for you to complete. Each challenge has the following information:

    • The name of the challenge
    • A brief description of the challenge
    • The last time you completed the challenge
    • An indicator of the progress of the challenge
    Challenges can be filtered both by the search bar and with the pre-built filters.
    Challenges can have various conditions to complete - such as time limits and order of completion. Tap a challenge to access the full details.

    Any time limited challenge requires piste to be open the whole time.

    Completion Map

    The completion map displays an overview of the areas you have visited in the resort. Tracks, lifts and challenges are themed in a red/green color scheme

    • 🔴 Incomplete
    • 🟢 Complete
    The tooltip shows various completion percentages as well as an overall completion percentage. The controls at the bottom can be used to toggle various map elements on and off.

    • device_thermostat Heat Map

    To add a resort click the + button, to remove a resort swipe a resort to the left.
    And simply tap a resort to go into the resort details page.

    Group List

    This screen displays the ski groups you have joined or created. Ski Groups is how your location is shared with your friends, your location is visible whilst recording to all your friends in all groups.

    To add or join a group click the + button, to leave a group swipe a group to the left.
    And simply tap a group to go into the group details page.

    Group Details

    Details

    This screen displays the details of the ski group you have selected. Clicking the top burger dots opens various group management options

    • View the group on the map
    • Edit the group details
    • Delete the group entirely

    Group info

    The top card shows

    • Join Code - The code to join the group, you can share this code with others so they can also join the group.
    • Password - An indicator to indicate if a password is required to join the group. (Only the group administrators can set passwords)
    • Premium - The premium status of the group (If any administrators in the group have a subscription the group becomes a premium group)
    • Max participants - Displays the current member limit of the group as per the premium status.

    Participants

    The list of participants shows all the friends in the group. Clicking a user offers various management options.

    • View on map - Go to that members location on the map screen
    • Promote to group admin - Make this Regular user an administrator of the group. (This action cannot be undone)
    • Remove from group - Kick this user out of the group (Be sure to change the group password to prevent the user rejoining)

    Leaderboard

    The leader board requires the group itself to be a premium group (an administrator in the group will need to be a premium user to be accessible). This enables data sharing between all members in the group and individual premium membership is not required to access the leaderboard. The leaderboards can be explored in the following way

    Resort Selection

    All resorts the members have skied appear here in the order of the most recent.

    Category Selection

    The following leaderboard categories are available
    Metric Description
    Resort completion Compare the total exploration of the resort; this is the total percentage of runs, lifts, and challenges completed.
    Speed Compare the maximum on-piste speed. To prevent accidental speeds from transport and ski buses, this must be achieved on a recognised piste.
    Distance Compare the total distance travelled on recognised pistes and lifts within the resort (not total GPS distance, for the above reason).
    Challenges Compare the challenges completed in the resort; you can tap a name to see a full summary.
    Runs Compare the combined number of runs visited in the resort. Skiing the same run twice counts as two.
    Lifts Compare the combined number of lifts ridden in the resort. Riding the same lift twice counts as two.

    Session List

    This screen displays the days you have recorded using piste The list is organized into trips where the starting resort is the same.

    To record a new session, go to the map screen and click the start skiing button. Swipe a date to delete that day's data (this cannot be undone) Tab a date to view that day's session in detail

    Session Details

    Details

    This screen displays the details of the day you spent skiing. There are various widgets and graphs available on this screen

    • Runs - The total count of recognized runs recorded by piste. Off-piste runs appear in purple
    • Lifts - The total count of recognized lifts recorded by piste. Surface Lifts are a combined count of drag, carpet and platter lifts. Gondola lifts are a combined count of Cable cars and Gondolas Funiculars Lifts are a combined count of Rail and funiculars.
    • Map - shows the route you took, click it to expand and view in more detail.
    • Challenges show the challenges you achieved or re-achieved during the session.
    • Duration - shows what you spent your doing in the resort.
      • On Runs is riding a recognized Piste piste.
      • On Lift - is riding a recognized Piste piste.
      • Stationary is standing stationary away from a run or lift.
      • Traversing is any excess time that was not categorized above (its assumed to be walking between runs and towards lifts).
    • Distance - shows the total KM spent on each piste type in the resort.
    • Altitude - shows a graph of your height above sea level as recorded by your GPS (this value is different between IOS and Android)
    • Stats Grid
      • Overall distance - This is the total GPS distance recorded
      • Lift distance - This is the total GPS distance whilst using a lift
      • On-Piste distance - This is the total GPS distance whilst using a recognized Piste
      • Off-Piste distance - This is the total GPS distance whilst not using a recognized Piste or Lift (this can include walking)
      • On-Piste descent - This is the total altitude drop whilst using a recognized Piste
      • Off-Piste descent - This is the total altitude drop whilst recognized as off piste skiing (use barometer must be turned on in settings)
      • Overall top speed - This is the fastest speed achieved according to your GPS
      • Overall average speed - This is the average speed achieved according to your GPS
      • On-Piste top speed - This is the fastest speed achieved whilst skiing a recognized Piste piste
      • Off-Piste top speed - This is the fastest speed achieved whilst recognized as off piste skiing
    • Speed graph shows your speed as recorded by your GPS over the time of day
    • Lift duration shows the total time spent on each lift type, including queuing.
    • Run duration shows the total time spent on each run type, including stopping.
    • Favorite runs shows which runs you visited most.
    • Fastest runs shows which runs you achieved the highest speed most.

    Exporting data

    Exporting data requires a premium membership

    Format Description
    GeoJSON This exports the raw GPS track as GeoJSON.
    GPX This exports the GPS track, the speed at each point, and the altitude at each point.
    KML This exports the raw GPS track as KML.
    CSV This exports the raw GPS track, altitude, and speed as a CSV file for data analysis.
