Is it your first time heading off to Tignes & Val d'Isère this year? Make sure you don't miss these 5 runs! From beginner to white-knuckle runs we think you'll find a favourite in our mix.
🔴 Red Run - 2.4km - 3450m to 3000m
This run is worth it for the street cred alone. To reach the dizzying 3,456m peak, you'll first take a 12-minute Funicular though the mountain, followed by a further ride up a cable car. At the top, you're rewarded with breathtaking views of the entire Alps and a thrilling, often ungroomed, windswept red run that will definitely boost your skiing reputation.
If adrenaline isn’t your thing, no worries — you can always take the cable car back down!
🔵 Blue Run - 2.3km - 1770m to 1550m
Experience a winter wonderland as you ski through snow-capped trees and caves on Myrtilles, a scenic route down to Les Brévières. The sides often feature playful snow deposits, perfect for little jumps and tweaks along the way. However, beginners on a snowboard should be cautious — there are some tricky flat sections that can be tough to navigate.
⚫ Black Run - 1.8km - 2550m to 2080m
This unique run offers unparalleled views of Tignes Village and Le Lac, but be prepared — it comes at a cost. With one of the steepest gradients in the area and heavy traffic, the piste often becomes chopped up by the day's end. However it's a badge of honour to complete by the end of your ski week.
Also, if you're staying in Tignes don't miss the magical nighttime torchlight descent that takes place here, the ski school kids certainly make it look easy.
🔵 Blue Run - 4.4km - 3000m to 2310m
Genepy, located just below the Grande Motte, might seem like a typical wavy blue run, but the real gem lies in the easily accessible powder on either side.
After a fresh snowfall, these hidden stashes offer some of Tignes' best-kept secrets, staying pristine for most of the day due to low traffic.
If you're feeling extra daring there is a huge off-piste valley for you to drop into and travel alongside the stream back to Val Claret.
🟢 Green Run - 1.3km - 2700m to 2490m
We've been a bit sneaky, technically this run is in Val d'Isere rather than Tignes, but is worth the short trip up Borsat (Area Ski Pass). Grand Pré may be classified as a green run, but it delivers a smooth ride that packs a punch with its potential for pure downhill speed. It was an instant favourite for us, with the only downside being the relatively slow lift back up for another go! As a green run, it's perfect for the whole family, allowing everyone to ski at their own pace. Plus, its remote location means you’ll often have the piste almost to yourselves.
For those wishing to dabble into off piste, there are tracks to be made in the powder under the lift that are well sheltered and within full view of the run for maximum safety.
To top it off, there’s a challenging border cross course nearby, making this area a trifecta of fun.
Once you're tuckered out, you can chill out at the bar next to the lift and admire the views before heading back.
